Review: Grand Hotel De Paris Moscow

Intro

During my final night in Moscow, I decided to splurge a little bit and check out a brand new hotel called Hotel De Paris. During the course of my trip to Russia, I had always tried to stay under about 150 USD per night, but when I saw a hotel offering a jacuzzi, and it was my final night, I had no choice but to pull out the big bucks for this Parisian-style hotel.

Well, how was it? It's a nice hotel, but I highly recommend staying elsewhere at the price point they offer. With no onsite amenities and relatively basic rooms, Hotel Akvarel offered nicer rooms but at a cheaper price point.

Location+Price

Part of what you pay for when it comes to Hotel De Paris is the location. About a 30-minute walk from the Bolshoi, and a 10-15-minute walk from Patriarch's Pond, you are literally in the center of Moscow.

It's right next to many places, a couple of nights here is perfect, purely based on the location

When it comes to pricing, things were a little bit screwed for me here. Why? Well, it was the height of summer in Moscow, and I happened to book the day off when many hotels were already sold out. For the most luxurious room, I ended up paying 230 USD for one night (including taxes), but during off-season, that room can go for about 150-160 USD.

Rooms

Well, the room is pretty much the entirety of this hotel, as aside from the service aspect (which was fine, but not great), there are zero facilities at this hotel. Like zero.

Anyway, after finally checking in, right at the dot of 3 pm mind you, I was directed up the stairs to my room on the second floor.

Yeah, ummm, this room is pretty basic. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it's not nice, just for the price in Moscow, you would expect more than a room of about 300 Square Feet.

Featuring a King Bed, Air Conditioning, a chair, and a small desk for working, I was more than happy for my one night stay, but anything longer than 2 nights, and I would have looked elsewhere.

However, where the hotel really did shine brightly was with their lavatory situation. The whole reason I booked this room was to roam around the Jacuzzi to feel like I was in the Al Safwa Lounge 😅. And while the lavatory itself was basic, the jacuzzi worked a treat.

The only issue was that it took about 1 hour to fill up, but that's the standard for a tub this size...

Other than being stingy on check-in, that was it. Nothing else to the hotel... What a shame...

Final Thoughts

I was more than happy to make the mistake of booking this hotel in Moscow in hopes of showing you not to stay here, unless a giant jacuzzi is your thing. While the perks are the jacuzzi and the location, other than that, you can get much better value for the same price elsewhere. I highly recommend checking out Hotel Akvarel or even the Hilton, which can constantly be less than 90 USD per night.

Next stop: Abu Dhabi!
