Review: East Pacific Passenger Lounge Beijing Daxing (PKX)

Intro

After arriving on board a flight to forget from Bangkok on China Eastern, I had about 4 hours to kill until my flight to Moscow Sheremetyevo. To say I was a little nervous would be the understatement of the year, so I decided to treat myself to a 3-hour pass at the East Pacific Passenger Lounge.

While China Eastern is part of SkyTeam, this remains the only alliance in which I do not have status. Hence, I decided to head to a pay-to-use lounge.

Location+Access

Finding the East Pacific Passenger Lounge is a bit of a challenge, but my tip for you would be to look for the Starbucks, and it's about 100 meters behind it. For reference, it is in the International Terminal, on the third floor, which is where the departures go from.

The entrace will look like this (just follow the signs for "pay lounge", there are plenty):

In terms of access, this is where it gets a bit complicated, as you can choose different packages. Here are some of the following:

  • One hour in the lounge is about 12 USD

  • Three hours for the lounge is about 25 USD

  • A shower costs extra, but they are available

  • They also sell bedrooms available per night for about 270 USD. However, these do not have windows, but feature a bathroom. Considering I was on a budget this trip (ehh, somewhat), I decided against this.

No business class ticket, first class ticket, or frequent flyer status will get you in.

Seating

Upon entering, I was pleased to see quite a modern space. To the right is a small place with a few seats, as well as some telephone booths; to the left is where the majority of the lounge was laid out. During the morning hour, it was quite busy, with people lying across the couches, and many people taking a nap. However, as many flights departed, including Aeroflot to Moscow, it began to fade out.

Below is what the main part of the lounge looked like:

Additionally, there was a small place for sitting close by to the buffet, which looked sleek and elegant.

However, I found a few workspaces behind the entrance, which seemed a lot more peaceful. These were a great place to get some work done for a couple of hours before boarding. If you come here solo, this is where to sit.

Dining+Drinks

Throughout the morning, I was pleased to see that there was plenty of food on rotation. Whether you are looking for a Western dish or traditional Chinese dishes, the East Pacific Lounge seems to have it all. Below are some of the offerings for lunch, as well as a picture of what I had for breakfast.

For reference: lunch seems to start between 10:30-11 am. Additionally, there is a chef in the back who is willing to prepare an omelet in the morning, to your liking.

When it comes to drinks, it's certainly not industry-leading, but it ticks all of the essentials one needs. Coffee machines, soda water, pop, and plenty of other non-alcoholic drinks are available. In terms of alcohol, you are limited to the Pearl River beer. No wine or spirits are available.

Amenities

While the lounge offers additional amenities, as I mentioned before, I'll touch on what you get if you just pay for the traditional lounge access. Besides the free wifi (they give you a code at the front), there happens to be a departure board to track when boarding begins, as well as a total of 2 individual bathrooms. Oftentimes, there would be a bit of a wait when it was busy. Additionally, they ran out of toilet paper in one 😂.

Final Thoughts

I'm not going to go out of my way and say that this is an exceptional lounge, but honestly, there aren't many great lounges in China anyway (business class). For 25$, I was more than pleased with the money I spent. Having access to a quiet space for working, a few beers, and some food, I probably would've spent close to that in the terminal alone. If you don't have access to a lounge at PKK, I highly recommend paying for this one.
