Intro
After visiting many Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounges around the world, such as London, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and more, I was excited to check out what the SQ Business Class Lounge in Sydney was like prior to my United Polaris flight up to Los Angeles.
Well, how is it? Not bad at all, with good barista-made coffee, showers, and a selection of good food, I’ve enjoyed the many times that I have spent here. Let’s jump in!
Location+Access
For those looking for a spot to chill out before your flight, if you are flying on a Star Alliance Carrier and have access to a lounge, you will find both the Air New Zealand Lounge and the Singapore Airlines Lounge located in Terminal 1, by gate 59. It’s pretty hard to miss it; you simply head up the stairs or take the elevator, and the lounge will be right in front of you.

When it comes to access, the SQ SilverKris Lounge in Sydney follows the same rules as the others around the world.
Those with Star Alliance Gold departing on a Star Alliance same-day flight
Those flying Business Class on a same-day Star Alliance-operated flight
Those flying First Class on a same-day Star Alliance-operated flight
Seating
The SilverKris Lounge is certainly on the smaller side, and rightfully so, with the Air New Zealand Lounge located next door. Once inside, like the lounge in Hong Kong, there is a small and quiet room located nearby to the entrance.

Continuing on to the main part of the lounge, this is where you will find a large space with plenty of seating for over 80 people. It’s not the most elegant seating with an all-tan colorway to the seats, but each seat features individual power ports, and there is plenty of natural light trickling in from the windows.

However, if you are anything like me and associate lounge access with privacy (which with all of these credit cards is hard to find these days), located near the buffet is where you will find an array of the signature SilverKris lounge seats. Semi-private cubicles are always the way to go in my eyes, and this lounge excels with them.

Food+Drink+COFFEE!
Once entering the main part of the lounge, you will see a large buffet, bar, and someone pleased to make you a coffee. While I have only ever been here during breakfast hours, I was pleased to find a wide array of options such as eggs, bacon, sausages, pastries, as well as more Asian inspired dishes.
I’m not really sure why there is a big sign saying ‘Cutlery Station' as if we can’t see the cutlery 😅…

In addition to food, there are self-service drinks available behind the buffet. Whether you are looking for a 7 am beer (cough cough), a glass of Mumm champagne, or perhaps something with a little more kick like Maker's Mark (basic liquors), you can also find that here.
Perhaps a nicer whiskey would go a long way here, as all of my Australian friends seem to love whiskey 😉.

Finally, there is a little section off to the side where someone is happy to make you a coffee. The coffees are delightful and are decorated with the Singapore Airlines logo on top. We need more of this in lounges…

Other Amenities+Wifi
Feeling the need to freshen up before a long run over to your destination, no need to fret as the SilverKris lounge offers restrooms and showers available for use.
The restrooms are relatively basic, with a couple of stalls, as well as urinals, while the two showers are spacious and filled with all of the amenities you need.

If you want to take a shower, just ask one of the staff and they will be more than happy to provide you with a towel and unlock the doors. I have never had a wait for the showers, but keep in mind that I have only visited this lounge in the mornings.

Finally, as per expected, the SilverKris lounge offers free wifi to all customers. It’s quite good, and I had no issues streaming during my times here.
Service
As expected, the Singapore Airlines Business Class Lounge shines in terms of service. The staff at the front seemed to always be quite friendly, and throughout the lounge, items were picked up frequently.
However, there was one part which is small but noteworthy. The second time I visited, I headed up to the barista and asked for a cappuccino. Even though no one was in line, she informed me that I had to place the order on the tablet, which didn’t make much sense to me. I’m not sure why this wasn’t the case the first time, and it’s not a big deal, just a bit confusing…
Final Thoughts
The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge in Sydney is quite a nice place to relax before your flight. Comparing it to the Air New Zealand Lounge next door, I found this lounge to be a lot less busy and to have more of a modern feel to it (yes, the colors in the NZ lounge are brighter). With good showers, fantastic coffee, nice food, and overall friendly service, I look forward to the times that I return to this lounge.
Look, the Singapore Airlines lounges aren’t the nicest business class lounges in the world, but they are consistent. For people who fly around Asia on Star Alliance, it almost feels like you are stepping into a familiar place, even if you have never been there.
