Review: EVA Air Business Class Lounge Taipei

Intro
After arriving on a horrifically timed redeye from Bangkok on Eva Air, I had quite a bit of time to kill in the EVA Air Lounge in Taipei before my flight over to Seoul.
On the one hand, I prefer the Singapore Airlines Lounge as a whole, this lounge isn't bad at all. With good showers, a delightful hot dog buffet for lunch, and an open bar, there are worse places to hang out before a flight.
Location+Access
Much like the other Star Alliance lounges in Taipei, the EVA Air Lounge is located in Terminal 2, up the stairs, and on the opposite side to the SilverKris Lounge down the middle. To dumb it down, it is on the opposite side of Starbucks.
Additionally, EVA Air offers three lounges here. One for Business Class (this one), one for their credit card members, and one for their highest status holders.

When it comes to access, the SilverKris lounge follows the same rules as most Star Alliance lounges:
Those departing on a same-day ticket on a Star Alliance Carrier with Star Alliance Gold
Those departing on a same-day ticket on a Star Alliance Carrier in business/first class
No, you do not get access upon arrival.
Seating (Business Class)
Entering the lounge, I was informed that Star Alliance Gold passengers in economy are sent to the left of the lounge, while the more premium lounge on the right is dedicated to business class passengers.
Well, as fate would have it, the business class lounge on the right is physically gorgeous. Similar to the lounge in Bangkok, EVA Air has brought the design of this lounge to life.

Walking in, there is a small seating area on the left-hand side offering cubicles, workspaces, and other sorts of seating. However, there aren't power ports at every seat, so be aware of that.

Continuing on, there is a main center section consisting of more seating around a dome-like structure. While not as private, it provides good character to the lounge.

Overall, I would say that the lounge is modern and elegant, but the issue is that it gets extremely busy during peak hours. As an example, one time I visited, they didn't have a single seat available in the business class lounge and offered me a seat off to the right. Needless to say, the airline has to expand this lounge.
Dining
Located in the back right of the lounge is where you will find the self-service buffet laid out to passengers. Certainly, not up to the likes of the SilverKris Lounge next door, but it is a respectable presentation and quality.
They have a couple of hot options during opening hours, and at 11 am, the infamous hot dog tray comes out!

They have delicious rice as well!

Drinks
Moving on, for those looking to grab a quick beverage before your flight, you will be happy to know that there is an open bar located by the buffet. Certainly not a top-of-the-line selection, but perfectly acceptable.

Additionally, coffee, tea, juices, and soft drinks are available in the buffet area!

Bathrooms
While both sides have their respective bathrooms, I was pleased to find modernly appointed bathrooms featuring 4 stalls, and multiple urinals. Considering the size of the lounge, there was never a wait for the lavatories which is always nice (unlike certain other lounges cough cough Polaris).

Showers
Feeling the need to freshen up? Located on the left side of the lounge is where you will find four showers. Simply head to reception and inquire about a shower; they will show you the way to one of the decadently appointed shower suites.

These shower suites are fantastic, featuring amenities such as slippers, a toothbrush, a hairdryer, and fantastic water pressure. This is the one area where the EVA Air Lounge tops the SQ Lounge!
Star Alliance Gold Lounge
This review is primarily directed at the Business Class Lounge, but I checked out the Star Alliance Gold Lounge on the left-hand side, which seemed alright.
I am not entirely sure if this is strictly for Star Alliance Gold or what the regulations are, as it seemed to depend on the day. The first time I visited, they weren't allowing Star Alliance Gold (non-business class) passengers into the right side of the lounge, but the second time, I saw someone go in without a business class ticket.
Overall, this side seems a lot more dated, and while still nice with an extensive buffet, drinks, and seating, the business class lounge seems a lot nicer.

If the lounge overflows and you are on a business class ticket, feel free to check out this side of the lounge. Otherwise, I would not recommend it.
Final Thoughts
The EVA Air Lounge is a decent place to chill out before a flight, featuring nice seating, an elegant ambiance, a fine alcohol offering, and an adequate buffet. However, my main problem with this lounge is how busy it gets in the morning and evenings before the rush of departures. It can get to the point where there is no more space, and thus, I prefer the SQ Lounge when flying a Star Alliance Carrier. To each their own, though.
