Review: EVA Air Lounge Bangkok

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Following a flight from Dhaka to Bangkok on a Thai Airways 777-200ER, I had the opportunity to visit the EVA Air Lounge at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. When flying a Star Alliance carrier out of Bangkok, you have plenty of options in terms of lounges. Of course, you could head over to the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge or even the Singapore Airlines Lounge, but the EVA Air Lounge isn't too bad at all.

With swanky decor, nice shower suites, and a decent food/drink selection, I am happy with the 5 hours I spent here.

Location+Access

While Bangkok can be a slightly confusing airport if you have never visited, the EVA Air Lounge is relatively easy to find. If you head over to the F concourse, you will find the EVA Air Lounge right by gate F1.

When it comes to access, this lounge is open from 6 am- 2:30 am, and follows the usual Star Alliance rules:

  • Passengers with Star Alliance Gold will have access, as long as they are on an outbound flight operated by a Star Alliance Carrier.

  • Passengers flying business class will have access, as long as they are on an outbound flight operated by a Star Alliance Carrier.

  • Passengers flying First Class will have access, as long as they are on an outbound flight

Seating

Stepping into the lounge, I was pleasantly surprised to see this place pretty much deserted around 8 pm. Can I just say: does this look like a strip club (sorry) or an airport lounge? Well, I guess we are in Bangkok.

There are two main sections to the lounge, the back section which represents a go-go bar (not that I would know, just what I have heard), and then a more formal room closer to the entrance which is more along the lines of a traditional airport lounge.

While still swanky, the room close to the front provides more lighting during the night compared to the back room.

Food+Drink

Off to the side, near the front, lay a nice selection of food and drinks. If you are hungry, EVA Air provides plenty of hot and cold options, including small snacks such as Oreos (Yum). The staff made sure that all of the food was frequently topped off, which is always nice.

Can I just say how much nicer the food quality is in airports in Asia...

In terms of drinks, EVA Air ticked all of the boxes for alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. While non-alcoholic options were scattered throughout the lounge, with multiple coffee machines available as well, it was the alcoholic options that impressed me. I love that EVA Air has cold beer glasses, as it really adds extra refreshing notes to the beer.

Showers/Bathrooms

Seeing as I hadn't taken a shower since Warsaw (absurd, I know), it was time to freshen up and not smell anymore. The EVA Air Lounge features two showers that are available on a first-come first-served basis. Simply head over to the front, and the agent will help you get sorted and show you the way to the showers.

The showers were quite nice with good water pressure and space, just keep in mind that you are supposedly limited to 30 minutes per person.

While I won't speak about it directly, the lounge obviously offers free wifi and bathrooms, both of good quality.

Final Thoughts

While not the nicest business-class lounge in the world, the EVA Air Lounge in Bangkok is a decent place to spend time when departing from Bangkok. If your flight is sometime at night, make sure to head to the room in the back which looks somewhat like a strip club (love it). If a shower is on your mind, the showers in this lounge are much nicer than the Thai Airways Lounge... Overall, quite good!
