JetBlue Set To Launch Flights To Milan And Barcelona

Intro

JetBlue has had a difficult time when it comes to transatlantic routes. With routes to London routinely losing money, as well as a difficult time obtaining the slots they have wanted, the airline has had to adapt as best they can. Well, it seems that JetBlue is set to serve Milan and Barcelona as of next year, and this certainly makes sense.

The Details

Beginning in 2026, JetBlue has announced two summer seasonal services. Both originating in Boston, B6 will fly to both Milan and Boston. As of now, the flights are not on sale, but should be in the coming days. The Barcelona route will launch on April 16th, while Milan will follow on May 11th, and expect these routes to terminate come September, after school holidays finish.

While currently unconfirmed, I would expect JetBlue to utilize their A321LR for these routes due to the length of Boston-Barcelona/Milan. Milan is especially long, with the block distance coming in at over 6000km, 800km more than the flight to London Heathrow...

A Smart Route Addition

Throughout the past few years, we have seen summer travel boom to Europe. Heck, even the numbers in the Hamptons have decreased, since people seem deadset on going to Europe. So, there is very little downside here with adding Barcelona and Milan, with flights to Europe just having that much demand during the summer.

Additionally, JetBlue ended up selecting two routes that have very little demand. Boston-Milan is only served 4x weekly during the summer by Delta, while Barcelona is served daily on Delta, and 3x weekly on Iberia/Level.

Final Thoughts

JetBlue has just announced that they plan on adding two new destinations for the summer period of 2026. We can always expect US airlines to try out new destinations to Europe during summer, as there is such high demand, but JetBlue deciding on Milan and Barcelona seems like a sensible move. With Delta serving MXP 3x weekly, and DL and IB seving BCN, there is a market for B6 to exploit.
