Virgin Atlantic Adding Starlink By 2026: Fantastic

Intro

Over the past few years, we have seen airlines across the world, such as Air New Zealand, Air France, SAS, Qatar, and United (to name a few) begin to install Starlink across their fleet. Well, as it seems, Virgin Atlantic is set to become the first airline based in the UK to offer Starlink, as they plan to roll it out relatively soon.

The Details

Virgin Atlantic already has pretty good wifi across its fleet, offering Viasat wifi on select aircraft. However, as of 2026, Virgin Atlantic will be installing Starlink to its whole fleet (not the A330ceos since they will be retiring very soon), and the plan is to have it completely installed on all aircraft by 2027, which is an impressive timeline.

An exciting development for Virgin Atlantic

Not only will Virgin offer Starlink wifi, but if you are a Flying Club member (free to sign up for), it will be free to use. I do have to wonder if Virgin will make it so that it has to be linked before takeoff, as a few airlines I have used have done this, which would be a shame...

Starlink Is Exceptional

There are no two-ways about it, Starlink is truly transforming aviation. With the ability to play online games such as Fortnite, the ability to stream without interruptions, and technically being able to take Zoom calls (although this is a bad thing 😅 and you should not do this).

I have yet to be on a plane featuring Starlink, but a friend of mine screenshotted the speeds on his latest flight, and wow. The screenshot showed him at 35,000 feet and getting a 60 MB download speed and 20 MB upload speed.

So yeah, I cannot wait for this to come, not only to Virgin Atlantic, but to more airlines around the world!

Final Thoughts

Virgin Atlantic is set to install Starlink on all of their fleet by 2027, after the airline retires its A330ceos shortly. This is a huge development for the airline, and British Airways will have to make a decision on whether or not to install Starlink soon, as Virgin with have an upper hand here.
