Intro
Prior to my flight to Boston onboard United, I decided to check out the United Club at Los Angeles. While I have spent extensive time here in the past, the United Club at LAX still remains one of the best clubs in the network. With plenty of seating, kind bartenders, and a fantastic terrace for planespotting, I love being able to come back here when I can.
Not quite as good as the new club at Newark, though…
Location+Access
Finding the United Club at Los Angeles might be the easiest lounge to find across the whole airport. Upon clearing security, simply hang a right, and a large sign saying “United Club” will be right in front of you.

If you happen to be transiting, follow the signs to gate 71A, and it will be right in front of you. Basically, if you miss it, you should get your eyesight checked 😅.
In terms of access, this club follows the same rules as the others. Only those meeting the following condition can enter:
Global Services Members on a Star Alliance-operated flight
Those with a United Club membership
Star Alliance Gold passengers on any *A flight (not United)
Passengers departing/transiting/arriving on a business class flight SFO/LAX-EWR in Business Class
Passengers departing internationally (including Guam and Puerto Rico) in Business Class
Passengers departing on an international First Class flight on Star Alliance
Those with United Gold status or higher can access this lounge on international routes outside of Central/South America when flying United.
One time pass 59$. This is a club that accepts them every time I have been
As an example:
If you are United Gold, flying LAX-ORD-HND in economy, you can access the lounges in both Chicago and Los Angeles
If you are the top status on Turkish Miles&Smiles flying economy from LAX-SFO, you can access the lounge in LAX… but not if you are United Gold
The lounge is open from 5:45 am-11:30 pm, but the bar might close at 11…
Seating
This United Club is nothing short of majestic, and it shows as soon as you walk in. A long but endearing escalator takes you up the lounge, although it does feel like it takes a good 20 seconds 😂.

Quick note: Right behind the escalators is where you will find the customer service desk. The agents have been extremely helpful every time I have asked for something, even minor requests.

Moving on, this is where the main portion of the lounge is located. There is plenty of seating, with charger ports at almost every single seat. If you fancy a view over the tarmac, plenty of seating is available, while those seeking a quieter space have the option of center seats. It never gets overly packed to the point you can’t find a seat, but during the evenings, it is easily 70-80% full.

Moving on to the back, this is where you will find more dining-style seating, with tables and, of course, a bar. Nothing fancy, but perfectly acceptable for a club.

Other than a small corner in the back right of the lounge...

This just leaves the terrace located at the very back. Personally, one of my favorite aspects of a lounge is when they have a terrace, and it is beautiful. Never getting too busy, you can hear the aircraft's engines wind down as they pull into the gate, creating a perfect atmosphere.

Just don’t take a conference call here 😅
Food+Drink
Perhaps the main reason most people come to the club, to avoid the food onboard (sorry United, I love you, but it’s gotta change).
Located in the dining section, a rotating selection of a buffet is offered. While it used to be a delicious taco bar, the last time I went, it had changed to some chicken and rice. In addition to that, cheese, bread, and a salad bar are offered (for those looking to be healthy, not me).

Looking to either hydrate yourself or perhaps have a little nightcap? You can find all non-alcoholic drinks next to the buffet, such as soda machines, water, and coffee machines, while alcohol is available at the bar. A kind bartender will be happy to fix you up with one of the complimentary drinks (house red, house white, house sparkling, and a few basic liquors), while the higher-end alcohol is available for purchase.

All in all, a solid selection, a large bar to sit at if that is your thing…
Other Amenities
Aside from the phone rooms located close by to the customer service desk when entering, there are a couple of other amenities, and one big missing amenity.

Free wifi is available throughout the lounge. Simply log in, and you will be online in no time.
Restrooms are present at the midpoint of the main seating area of the lounge. For the mens, there are 5 individual stall, and 5 urinals (I believe, I don’t sit there with a notepad and count them one by one while people are pissing 😅)

However, it must be noted that there are NO showers in the lounge. The Polaris Lounge does have showers, and nice ones at that 😉.
Service
Throughout my time at the United Club here at LAX, I have consistently found good service. As a matter of fact, it’s been my experience at every United Lounge in Southern California. The one at SNA had great service, the Polaris Lounge is well, it helps that I am good friends with many people there, and the one in San Diego is lovely.
So yeah, no need to fret about service in Southern California with United, and to go a step further, this usually includes the crews.
Final Thoughts
I am not the biggest fan of United Clubs as a whole, but the one at LAX is actually pretty well designed. Whether it be an ample amount of seating, lovely service, or the outdoor terrace, it really is a pleasant way to spend a few hours before your flight. Additionally, it’s also exceptional that they rarely turn away one-time pass holders, a rarity in today's world.
