British Airways Switches Up A380 Schedule For Winter 2025

Konrad Tillman

Intro

I usually don't cover stuff like this, but as an avid lover of the African continent and someone who loves to redeem points, I thought I might as well cover this topic.

The Details

British Airways currently runs a fleet of 12 A380s operating from London to Boston (summer seasonal)/Dallas/Singapore/Johannesburg (to name a few) with 111 premium seats. With 14 First Class seats and 97 business-class seats, this is by far the best way to fly long-haul business class on points with British Airways.

However, it gets even better since, notoriously, one of the hardest routes to get award space on was the London to Johannesburg leg (or Los Angeles as well). As of the winter schedule in 2025, it seems that British Airways will operate the following routes with the A380:

  • 09:45: BA207 to Miami

  • 11:45: BA285 to San Francisco

  • 12:40: BA107 to Dubai

  • 14:30: BA209 to Miami

  • 15:05: BA269 to Los Angeles

  • 18:25: BA55 to Johannesburg

  • 21:15: BA57 to Johannesburg

With demand high in South Africa during the cold and rainy winters in the UK, it makes perfect sense to double down the A380 on this route.

Just be aware that the A380 should be refurbished in the coming years. However, for now, the business class seats are in a 2-4-2 on the lower deck and a 2-3-2 on the upper deck. If you are able to snag a window, this is fantastic, but if you are stuck in the middle on the lower deck next to a stranger, not so much.

For First Class, it features the older product without a door, unlike the BA 777 First Class, which has been refreshed.

Award Space

For those looking to head out to South Africa, there isn't currently a lot of award space when booking in advance. However, I have constantly seen BA release plenty of award seats closer to departure on their A380s, as filling up 111 premium seats takes quite a decent amount of work.

Keep your eyes peeled 👀.

Final Thoughts

British Airways has just released its winter schedule for their A380s. For those who are into booking points tickets, this is certainly something useful if you plan on heading down south to South Africa for the winter. For the time being, there isn't a lot of award space, but I would imagine more and more seats will open up closer to departure.
