BA Getting New "Club Suites" 1.2 On A380s

Intro

Almost 7 years (gosh, has it been that long), British Airways came out with their new business class on their A350, but since then, these have been installed on most 777-200s, all 777-300s, and some 787s.

However, there have been a few issues with the club suites, and these are going to be addressed going forward.

The Details

With BA ramping up the number of aircraft getting these club suites, they have decided to address a couple of issues that have been quite prominent.

Going forward, it seems that British Airways will install a club suite 1.2, firstly on A380s, and potentially on other aircraft in the future as well. The changes are as follows:

1. The doors will be slightly higher to offer improved privacy

2. The red latch, which passengers consistently grab, will be hidden

3. The storage "cupboard" in the Suite will lose its door (they're always scratched). It will be replaced by straps instead.

4. Improved materials on the seat itself.

So, when will these changes take place? Supposedly, British Airways has plans to begin retrofitting the A380 at the beginning of 2026. However, they are already behind on retrofits (Covid backed it up), so who really knows?

A Quick Thought

It seems like these changes are logical, and in general, quite minor. Looking at the four changes, the most prominent two for passengers will be the higher doors and improved materials on the seat itself. At the end of the day, that is what makes a business-class product good: sleeping in privacy.

However, it is interesting to know that people tended to grab the red latch (usually red means don't touch), as well as the fact that the cupboards were getting scratched. If so, why not just make it a non-scratchable material instead of replacing it with straps? Ehh, this is all small stuff in the grand scheme of things.

Final Thoughts

Those who are avid British Airways flyers will be happy to know that the airline plans to install a "Club Suite 1.2" on the A380s. Coming next year, the doors will be higher, the seats will have nicer materials, the red latch will be gone, and the storage cubby will be replaced with straps.
