Air Canada's Free Wifi Is Now Available On Most North America Routes

Intro

Over the past few months, Air Canada has been in the process of rolling out free wifi to passengers flying in North America, and it seems that progress is being made on this front.

The Details

As of May 1st, Air Canada is now offering free wifi to Aeroplan members across 88% of their fleet to markets in the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The service, sponsored by Bell, covers almost all of their narrowbody fleet, including the Q400s partially based at Toronto Bishop, but not the long-haul fleet as of now.

While free wifi hasn't come to the long-haul fleet yet, the plan is to launch this service as of 2026, although when in 2026 is to be determined.

Fantastic!

When wifi first came to aircraft, it was a revolutionary experience for the airline that offered it. Being able to connect at 38,000 feet is no small feat, and thus it costs a pretty penny. However, with more and more airlines having wifi, airlines have looked at providing free wifi to passengers as a differentiating factor.

As an example, Singapore Airlines now offers free wifi to passengers, regardless of whether the passenger is flying in First Class or economy. Now, airlines in the US have looked to provide the same service recently, with American Airlines and Delta following suit after JetBlue. For Air Canada, this is certainly a move in the right direction!

Final Thoughts

If you happen to be flying Air Canada this summer (and in the future) on a narrowbody aircraft, you'll be in for a treat with free wifi. This is a fantastic move by Air Canada, and I cannot wait for this to come to the whole fleet in 2026!
