4th Of July In The Hamptons: My Experience
Intro
The 4th of July is one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States, perhaps the most celebrated holiday. Throughout the United States, people from around the world gather, lighting fireworks, eating great food, and enjoying the company of others around them (most of the time drinking as well). Everyone knows the Hamptons, and I happened to be out there during the 4th of July last year. If you’ve been out to the Hamptons, you know just how crazy it can get this weekend; with bars packed to the brim, traffic that is outrageous, and cops pulling people over frequently, there is also some beauty to it.
The Montauk Fireworks
If you live/summer out in the Hamptons, you probably know that almost every Hampton has its own firework show. However, the best firework show is the one that is at Montauk, and that is by a long shot. For this 4th of July, I headed out with my family to see what all of the fuss was about with this “incredible firework show” and needless to say, it didn’t disappoint.
Take a look at some of the pictures below:

A couple of things to note if you decide to go:
It is crazy business on this evening
Arrive early to get a decent spot for parking or you will have to end up walking 0.5-1 mile each direction
The beach gets packed, once again I highly recommend arriving early to get a viewpoint of the fireworks
The actual fireworks tend to start at around 9:15 (at least they did in 2024) and last anywhere from 20-30 minutes.
Where to go out after?
The 4th of July parties in the Hamptons are a complete madhouse. You have plenty of options when it comes to parties, with anything ranging from a house party, to a bar, to a full-scale nightclub.
In Montauk, you have a couple of options (of course, there are more but these are just a few options):
Shagwong
Memory Motel (ahh what a lovely shithousery)
Bounce
Surf Lodge
East Hampton
Stephen Talkhouse
Murfs (Sag)
South and West
Dream
Ultra
Social Club
However, there was one spot which my friends took me to that night which was a pretty damn fun time: Union Burger Bar
Union Burger Bar is traditionally a restaurant located in South Hampton. However, during the summers, there happens to be a club off to the right inside. It’s a cool spot for a stopover on your night out with a decently large dance floor, friendly people, and a good vibe all around. If I had to do it again, I’d probably stop off here before going over to Social Club (well, that’s if I could get in or someone split the cost of a table).

Be aware that Uber prices are ridiculous during the 4th of July. If you plan on seeing the fireworks or heading out, expect to pay somewhere in the range of $100-150 for a 25-minute drive between East Hampton and Montauk (usually $40).
Final Thoughts
Spending the 4th of July in the Hamptons is something that I recommend doing at least once in your life (if you are into that kind of scene). Packed to the brim, fireworks fill the sky, drunken 20-year-olds fill the street, and stupid accidents occur (just look at Bounce). However, there is some beauty to this madness, as if you find the right crew and visit the right spots, you’ll have a lovely weekend out in the Hamptons…
