Intro
About a month ago, I wrote about how Singapore had officially banned vapes for transit passengers, as the new crackdown came into effect. Well, it seems like there has been some pushback as things have now changed.
The Details
Just yesterday, I happened to be flying out of Singapore on transit from Bali, and my destination was Bangkok. While I figured I would have to throw my vape away, I asked one of the lounge agents who worked for Singapore Airlines if I could bring it with me, and this was his response:
As long as you are in transit, there won't be any issues. However, if you enter Singapore it is illegal to possess a vape"
I thought to myself, "cool", but does he really know what he is talking about?

Well, as I went through security at the gate, I left my vape outside of my bag to let them know I wasn't hiding it. Guess what? No one said a thing...
So, putting two and two together, it seems that Singapore has actually unbanned transit passengers from bringing vapes, and for Singapore to do this is virtually unheard of...
What On Earth
Singapore is known for being one of the strictest nations on earth. Yes, you cannot chew chewing gum, and yes, smoking is illegal in most places in Singapore. However, this is one of the first laws that I have seen reversed, and I have to imagine this actually is coming from a place of economics.
Let's not beat around the bush, aside from the new vape, which is even worse in Singapore, "Etomidate", the reason they have banned vapes is due to how much money they make off of taxes on cigarettes. But, with this story gaining over 1 million views across platforms from some of the top travel bloggers (yes, I leaked it to OMAAT and Live and Let's Fly), Singapore has reversed this decision, and quickly.
Nothing else to say but wow, since this is the first law I have come across that Singapore has reversed this quickly...
Final Thoughts
For those who vape, you will be pleased to know that you can now bring your vape through security on transit in Singapore. While Singapore cracked down about a month ago, it seems that everything online has led Singapore to become more lenient, which is virtually unheard of.
Saying this: I still would recommend chucking it in your carry-on bag and not leaving it out, as this invites unwanted attention...
