Why Doesn't Eva Air Fly Direct From Taipei-London?
Intro
At the time of writing this, I am currently sitting in the Eva Air Business Class Lounge in Taipei, pondering about a flight that doesn't exist. For some reason, I always assumed that Eva Air flew from Taipei to London Heathrow non-stop, but I realized today that isn't the case.
So, I started doing some research and thought I would make a post summarizing what I have found for those who have the same question.
Demand
Most** Asian carriers that serve US markets typically also serve London (there are some anomalies I understand). Well, supposedly, the reason for Eva Air not serving Taipei-London (non-stop) is due to demand. One would have thought that there would be enough demand on the LHR route, but apparently, this isn't the case.
In addition, EVA Air still serves London, but with a short stopover in Bangkok 1x daily. For countless years, we have seen EVA Air run the BR67/68 routing from TPE-BKK-LHR on a 777-300ER, and I believe that it seems to be working out for them.
Interestingly, China Airlines serves the Taipei-London Heathrow (used to be Gatwick) non-stop route 4x weekly with an A350-900. Unfortunately, I can't find the load factors for this route, but I would be very interested in seeing them.
If you are looking to head to Europe with EVA, you can still fly nonstop with the airline to Paris, Munich, Milan, and Vienna.
Final Thoughts
If you have ever wondered why EVA Air doesn't fly directly from Taipei to London Heathrow, it is primarily due to low demand on the route, in addition to having BR67/68 operating well through BKK. Unfortunately, this probably won't change for a while, so the only direct option is with China Airlines on their A350-900 as of now.
