Which Routes Feature American Airlines First Class? (February 2025)
Intro
American Airlines is in the process of supposedly fazing out First Class for their new Flagship Business. While the process of removing First Class was supposed to begin last year, there have been delays for a couple of different reasons. So, for the time being, there is still the opportunity to fly American Airlines First Class on a number of different routes across 4 continents.
The 777-300ER
The flagship aircraft of American Airlines is the behemoth 777-300ER. This monster of an aircraft features 8 First Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 52 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 28 premium economy seats in a 2-4-2 configuration, and 216 economy seats in a 3-4-3 configuration.
While these planes certainly are in desperate need of a refresh, I have enjoyed my flights on them in both business class and first class.

For the time being, you can find these 777-300ERs operating on the following routes:
DFW-LHR 2x Daily
JFK-EZE 1x Daily
JFK-LHR 1x Daily
CLT-LHR 1x Daily (relatively new addition)
LAX-LHR 1x Daily
LAX-SYD 1x Daily
MIA-GRU 1x Daily
MIA-EZE 1x Daily
MIA-LHR 2x Daily
As you can see from the routes that American Airlines operates these aircraft, it’s clear that there are three main focus points: Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, and London (feeder for connecting BA traffic).
Additionally, if you are looking to fly the 777-300ER on a domestic route, the only option you have at the moment is a once-daily flight from Miami to Dallas (AA843/AA2813).
The A321T
The only other aircraft that features First Class on American Airlines is their A321T (Transcontinental). All flights operating from Los Angeles to Boston, Los Angeles to New York, Santa Ana to New York, and San Francisco to New York feature American Airlines swanky A321 in a 3 cabin layout.

For those interested, the A321T features 10 First Class seats in a 1-1 configuration, 20 business class seats in a 2-2 configuration, and 72 economy class seats in a 3-3 configuration, making this plane one of the least dense commercial narrowbodies in the sky.
My Thoughts
While American Airlines First Class might not even be close to the likes of Qatar/Emirates/ANA, the product is relatively easy to get on a miles redemption or SWU. For example, on most days close in, you can fly from New York to Los Angeles for 42.5K Miles in First Class, which is a steal considering you also have access to the best lounge in the USA: The Chelsea Lounge.

Additionally, I would presume that by sometime next year, the last true First Class product in the USA will be gone for good. If you’ve ever wanted to try out American Airlines First Class, now is the chance.
Just to be clear, I am not saying that you should fly American First Class over BA First Class, La Premiere or Lufthansa, I am saying that if you find good mileage space, why not?
Final Thoughts
American Airlines is in the process of fazing out First Class on their remaining aircraft in the fleet. For the time being, the only two aircraft that operate a First Class cabin are the A321T, flying domestically, and the 777-300ER, which seems to operate mostly* to London, Buenos Aires, and Sao Paulo. Considering this cabin won’t be around for a while, it might be worth hopping on one more flight in F if you can find a good mileage rate or apply an SWU.
