United Airlines Reveals New "Polaris" Seats+Studios: Beautiful

Intro

For quite a long time, United Airlines has had fleet consistency across their widebodies in business class. Whether you ended up on the 767, 787, or 777, the product you were going to receive was roughly identical.

Well, with ever-growing premium demand, United Airlines has finally announced what their brand new "Polaris" product will be, and it is quite striking.

The Polaris Seats

After details were leaked yesterday, it has now been confirmed that United will be launching the Adient Ascent product as their new Polaris Seat. The front cabin, between doors 1 and 2, will have the entirety of the seats laid out in a 1-2-1 configuration, reverse herringbone style. However, behind door 2, United has decided to install a second cabin in a traditional herringbone configuration in the center, while keeping the window seats in a reverse herringbone.

You can expect to find the following as part of the seat:

  • 19-inch touchscreen television

  • Bluetooth audio

  • Wireless charging

  • Digital seat controls

I think, above all else, what I appreciate United doing is having one part of the cabin directed towards families, and the other part directed towards solo/business travelers. Actually, genius, when you think about it, as if you are with your children, you most likely would want to sit next to them. All in all, it seems to be a well-thought-out product.

Polaris Studio

Now, while United has rolled out these new Polaris seats, they have also rolled out a sort of "business class plus" product. Located in the bulkheads, passengers will be treated to the utmost luxury that United has offered since First Class.

Is it just me, or does the picture below slightly give off BA First Class vibes on their 787s?

The eight seats (4 at the front of each cabin), will feature upgraded hard product amenities consisting of:

  • A buddy seat

  • 27-inch touchscreen monitor

However, where United really shines in this product is what they are going to offer, soft product-wise:

  • Luxurious Slippers

  • Hoodie pajamas

  • Upgraded amenity kits

  • Nice headphones

  • Upgraded skin care

  • A velvet throw pillow

  • Branded playing cards (neat addition)

Additionally, Laurent Perrier Rosé will be served alongside an Ossetra Caviar amuse bouche. Talk about upgraded dining? That is one of my favorite champagnes in the world!

Lastly, passengers booked into the Polaris Studio will also be able to enjoy the Global Services reception at departing and arriving airports, along with tarmac transfers during tight connections.

A Couple Of Thoughts

Overall, I am a huge fan of this product, and this is an exciting time to be a United flyer. The airline has come leaps and bounds in the past few years, and this showcases how far they have come. Here are a couple of my thoughts:

  • I have to wonder how United will price the Polaris Studio, as apparently it will not be available to be booked on miles.

  • While the first routes seem to be Singapore and London by the end of the year, I hope that timeline sticks.

  • I sort of will miss the old Polaris seat. While this seems sleeker, I find the footwell and surface to be more comfortable in the current Polaris seat than the Adient.

All in all, love it!

Final Thoughts

United Airlines has finally revealed its new Business Class cabins, titled "Polaris", and I have to say that these are sleek, well-designed, and clearly thought out. While we can expect to see them debut later this year, it will be interesting to see how United prices the new Polaris Studios, as I would guess these will be quite a bit more expensive than the regular Polaris seats.
