United Airlines Adds 8 New Routes: Senegal, Mongolia, Greenland+ More! I'm Excited!

Intro

United is in a league of its own when it comes to international networks across US carriers. The airline offers flights across 6 continents and to well over 60 countries/regions. Well, after much anticipation, United Airlines has just released its newest routes for next year, and they are unbelievable! Wow, am I excited?

8 New Routes

The new routes that United are launching are as follows:

Newark- Nuuk (Greenland)

  • When I was younger, I had the opportunity to visit Greenland, including Illulisat. However, Greenland is one of the trickier places to get to. With the opening of the new airport in Nuuk, United will now fly twice weekly (seasonally) to Nuuk using a 737 Max 8.

Washington- Dakar (Senegal)

  • Dakar is a market that is currently served by Delta out of JFK. However, United will now be launching 3x weekly flights between its hub in Washington DC and Dakar. The route will operate with a 767-300, and my guess is it won't be a high J configuration...

Tokyo- Ulaanbatar (Mongolia)

  • Probably, the most exciting new route on this list is Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia has been growing quite considerably in the realm of tourism, and now we see that the airline will launch a 3x weekly summer seasonal flight between its hub in Tokyo and the capital of Mongolia. The route will be operated by a 737, which UA uses around short international flights out of Tokyo

Tokyo- Kaohsiung (Taiwan)

  • To add to the previous Tokyo post, United will also be adding Kaohsiung on year-round service from Narita, also utilizing a 737-800.

Newark- Palermo (Italy)

  • As of May 21st, 2025, United will be launching a seasonal 3x weekly service from Newark to Palermo utilizing a 767-400. Italy has been booming recently, so this is a very smart move by UA.

Newark-Bilbao (Spain)

  • As of May 31st, 2025, United will be launching another flight with 3x weekly service from Newark to Bilbao. UA will become the first American carrier to launch a nonstop service to Bilbao. This flight will be operated by a Boeing 757-200.

Newark- Madeira (Portugal)

  • If you are a blue marlin fisherman, you are going to be excited about this route. As of June 7th, 2025, United will launch 3x weekly summer seasonal service from its hub in Newark to Madeira, Portugal. Interestingly, this route will be operated by a 737 Max 8.

Newark- Faro (Portugal)

  • A route that was supposed to launch last year during the summer but ended up getting delayed. As of May 16th, 2025, United will launch a 4x weekly summer seasonal service from Newark to Faro, Portugal. The aircraft being utilized is a Boeing 757-200.

United 757-200

While there are other routes being extended and upgraded, these 8 routes are the ones we are seeing that are brand new to the airline.

My Thoughts

Recently, I have decided to transition to United Airlines, especially since I seem to be exploring Africa quite a bit more, and I have had great experiences with the airline. Now, as a customer, I am unbelievably excited about some of these routes, such as Greenland and Mongolia.

Starting with Mongolia. How cool is it that we see a carrier fly from the US to Mongolia? I am planning on visiting Mongolia next year, so this service is perfect for me. Theoretically, one could fly 12 segments from Madeira to Mongolia all on a 737; that's how good the United International network is.

Secondly, I was invited to Greenland next year, and I was planning on accepting that invitation. However, I was always concerned about how much it costs and the time that it takes to Greenland. Heck, if I can redeem some miles on the 4-hour flight up to Nuuk, that would be infinitely better. I do hope that this route goes through.

Final Thoughts

United will be launching 8 brand-new routes in the summer of 2025. This is one of the most revolutionary announcements in the history of US aviation in the past 10 years, as we are seeing some beautifully random routes. How amazing is it that United will fly to Mongolia and Greenland??
