Tragic: Kenyan Blogger Passes Away After Being Arrested

Intro

Yes, this is a travel blog, and there will be an underlying message at the end, but I wanted to share something that I came across today that some people might not know. It is causing protests and uprisings in Kenya, and rightfully so...

The Details

About 10 days ago (June 6th to be precise), a political blogger by the name of Albert Ojwang spoke out against the Deputy Police Chief in Kenya, Eliud Lagat. Following his speaking out, he was arrested and held in prison for a period of time.

Well, about 4 days ago, Albert Ojwang tragically passed away. The police originally said that he passed away due to his own accord and claimed that it was suicide. However, an autopsy has revealed that there were signs of assault, including blunt force trauma to the head.

On slightly better news, the government is claiming that they are running a "thorough investigation into the murder of Albert", which I hope is the case, as he deserves justice. The US and EU nations have encouraged transparency on this situation.

Be Careful About What You Post

A lot of this blog's audience is from the US (I think 90%), and we can get away with saying almost anything on the internet. However, this is not the case in a lot of countries, whether it be due to actual laws or simply that higher powers do not want to be defamed.

So when you visit another country, be careful about what you post. Other countries have different regulations, and it's important to be mindful of that. What happened is a tragedy here...

Just watch out, and my thoughts and prayers don't only go out to everyone affected by the death of Albert, but to everyone in Kenya ❤️. It's a special country, and I hope justice is served.

Final Thoughts

Political blogger Albert Ojwang was recently found dead in a prison cell in Kenya after speaking out against the Police. While the original verdict by the police claimed that it was suicide, an autopsy later revealed that it was in fact murder. Be careful what you post online, and may we hold Albert Ojwang in our thoughts and prayers.

If you want to read up more on it, there is a link below to a BBC article. I just wanted to raise awareness on this:
