Swiss Airlines Upgrades Long-Haul Economy Experience

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Flying is unaffordable for the vast majority of the population, and flying premium cabins is even more unaffordable. However, thanks to miles and re-positioning flights, these have become somewhat slightly more affordable than previously. Well, if you happen to be flying Swiss Economy or premium Economy in the next while, Swiss is upping their game.

The Details

For the past while we have seen the movement of European carriers cutting free snacks on short-haul flights, including Lufthansa, Swiss Airlines, and now KLM. Well, as much as that sucks, Swiss Airlines has decided to upgrade their long-haul game.

In terms of food offerings, Swiss Airlines is planning to upgrade their pre-arrival meal to a snazzy looking, re-usable black box with featured new items off of the menu. In addition, their will a welcome aperitif featuring Swiss Cheese along with a glass of wine or soft drink.

I am unsure as to whether this will be served in the air, or on the ground. My guess is in the air, as I imagine serving 200+ passengers while everyone is boarding would be very tough.

New Bedding

Swiss Airlines will additionally be upgrading their economy long haul bedding, going from the traditional bedding to fully recyclable soft, but recyclable bedding. In my opinion, I would hope that this is a step up as watching for our environment, albeit minor, is also good to see.

Final Thoughts

While Swiss Airlines has decided to cut costs on their short-haul economy product, it seems that the airline is taking the initiative to produce a nicer long-haul experience for passengers seated in economy and premium economy. With upgraded meals, a welcome aperitif, and hopefully* more comfortable bedding, this is a step in the right direction.
