Snorkeling In Grenada: Underwater Statues
Intro
This will be the last extract on writing about Grenada, one of my favorite countries in the world. During my time in Grenada, I had the opportunity to go snorkeling in one of the most famous spots in the Caribbean. During the snorkeling trip, I visited some underwater statues, which absolutely mesmerized me. Here is my experience and why I recommend it!
The Experience
If you are looking to go snorkeling and visit these underwater sculptures, there is a place right next to Umbrella Beach Bar, which offers daily tours (literally right next to it). You'll see a PADI-certified sign outside, and you can opt to hop in even on the same day if space allows. I believe the cost was around 60$ for a 4-hour tour, which isn't too bad.
I selected the afternoon tour as the morning tour had already left, and by 1 pm, we were taken onboard a small boat for the 40-minute speedboat out to the location of the underwater statues. An aspect of the experience I liked is that the location of the statues wasn't overcrowded like other places in the world. There were a few boats, but maybe no more than 20 people (plus our group of 10).
Everything was provided, from snorkel masks, flipper floppers😅, cold water, and even a little rum at the end (ha). The most memorable part of the experience was the captain and staff that were onboard. As I have spoken about in countless other posts, Grenada has some of the nicest humans on the planet, and the staff onboard this tour are no different. They went out of their way to have fun, take pictures, take videos, and even dress up in little hats 😂.
After an hour and a half of snorkeling, it was time to head back in and prepare for a long night out for my last night in Grenada. Being on the ocean is my happy place. It's as if the whole world just disappeared, and this was one of the most memorable snorkeling trips of my life.
We arrived back at the main town of St George by 4 pm, and it was time to go explore even more.
Final Thoughts
If you happen to be in Grenada, this snorkeling trip is a must-do adventure. Seeing underwater sculptures is incredible on its own, and considering you can pop into a shop by the bar and book a half-day tour for 60$, it is a no-brainer. Just make sure to wear sunscreen, as the sun is strong!
