SAS Flight Diverts Due To A Live Mouse

Intro

Flights divert all the time, whether it be for snakes being on an Air India plane or more common reasons such as weather in the area😅. However, here is a new one that has caught me by surprise: a SAS flight has diverted due to a live mouse being found in a meal😉.

Cute Mouse🥺

The Details

4 days ago, on September 18th, 2024, an SAS flight was operating from Oslo to Malaga with the flight number SK4683. The A320neo took off just after lunch at 2:05 pm and was due in Malaga at 6:05 pm.

As the plane was reaching cruising altitude, meals and drinks were being passed out. A female passenger went to go open her meal and found a live mouse🤨, which quickly scurried out into the cabin. Due to being in the air with a live mouse and safety, the captain made the decision to divert to Copenhagen which was close by.

Following a long holding pattern, the flight ended up landing at 16:18 pm local time.

The flight ended up taking off a couple of hours later from Copenhagen and landed in Malaga only 2 hours later than scheduled. Not bad SAS.

My Thoughts

The one interesting aspect that stood out to me was that there were reports of the passengers remaining extremely calm in this situation. I am sure that if this happened in the US, it would have been a different story. A calm cabin contributed to SAS making excellent decisions all around and managing to get passengers on their way with only minor delays.

Now, with that being said, obviously, it's not great to see a mouse pop out of an airplane meal, and SAS should try to get to the bottom of how this happened. It's one thing if the mouse was in the cabin since it snuck on and was trying to hitch a ride. Seeing as this was inside of a meal, though, that does concern me a touch.

Final Thoughts

A SAS flight from Oslo to Malaga chose to divert from Copenhagen a couple of days ago due to a live mouse being found in someone's meal. SAS handled the situation very well, while passengers remained calm and collected. We occasionally see reports of animals on planes, but this is the first I have heard of a live mouse being in an airplane meal. Het, can't fault the mouse for being hungry😅.
