SAS Adds Seoul Flights: Interesting
Intro
Much has been changing in the world of the Scandinavian-based carrier SAS. For starters, we have seen the airline leave Star Alliance, and next up, they have decided to add service to Seoul Incheon in South Korea. Let's get into the details of this new route addition.
The Details
Beginning September 12th, 2025, SAS will launch 4x weekly service in summer and 3x weekly service in winter from Copenhagen to Seoul Incheon. While the flight is only blocked at 4937 miles, the block times are quite high due to Russian airspace being closed, with the eastbound taking 11 hours and 35 minutes, while the westbound sits around 13 hours and 20 minutes.
The schedule is as follows:
SK987: Copenhagen-Seoul Incheon departing 11:40 PM arriving 6:15 PM +1 day
SK988: Seoul Incheon-Copenhagen departing 11:45 PM arriving 6:05 AM +1 day
SAS will use an A350-900 for this route, which features a whopping 40 business class seats, 32 premium economy seats, and 228 economy seats.
My Thoughts
Considering that SAS has now joined Skyteam (boo), this route makes the most logical sense out of any other route they could possibly launch. Previously, SAS has served Tokyo and Bangkok (Asian routes), but with Korean Air being a big presence in Asia, this allows for a lot of connecting passengers from Europe to destinations in Asia.
The only drawback of this route is the extra fuel needed to fly from Copenhagen to Seoul. If we take a look at the A350-900 that operates in Tokyo, we can get a look at just how much of a diversion avoiding Russian air space means (heck, I had to do this with Sudan yesterday).
Final Thoughts
SAS, the Scandinavian-based airline, has announced the addition of its latest route. Beginning September 12th, 2025, SAS will launch a nonstop service from Copenhagen to Seoul Incheon 4x weekly during the summer and 3x weekly during the winter. Considering SAS has just joined Skyteam, and Koreanair has a large footprint in Seoul, this addition seems to be very logical.
