Intro
Roughly 3 years ago now, an announcement came out that Oman Air would be joining the Oneworld alliance in the future. Well, after quite the lengthy delay, it seems that this is finally coming to fruition
The Details
As of June 30th (the end of this month), Oman Air will finally be joining the One World alliance. Going forward, this means that those who are OW flyers will now have another option flying with a carrier in the Gulf, after Qatar. OW flyers will be able to earn and redeem miles with Oman Air as of June 30th, as well as having their elite benefits apply, such as lounge status in Muscat.

The Oneworld alliance has been significantly growing, with the recent additions of Fiji Airways, Alaska, Royal Air Maroc, and soon to be Hawaiian Airlines. However, at the same time, they have also lost a key member in the market: LATAM.
My Thoughts
In a highly competitive region, this is quite an interesting addition to the Oneworld network. On the one hand, I have to presume this is extremely good for Oman Air as their network isn’t too large, so being able to market codeshares will be good for them.
However, on the other hand, I am curious to see if this affects Qatar Airways’ market at all. With the carriers located so close by to each other, and Oman Air offering much lower fares compared to QR, will OW elites shift their loyalties to Oman Air? Especially considering if they keep their 1200TP for gaining gold status (OW Emerald). I know they seem more like friends than rivals, but only time will tell if it stays that way…
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out in the end.
Final Thoughts
After three years of chat, Oman Air will finally be joining the Oneworld alliance come June 30th, 2025. This is exciting for Oneworld elites, as with BA shifting towards revenue-based earnings, this could* be a good way to gain Oneworld Emerald. Let's see how this all plays out with Qatar now.
