My Amazing United Connection At Dulles
Intro
A couple of days ago I flew from Los Angeles to New York (LGA) with a connection in Dulles. Ordinarily, I wouldn't fly with a connection, but I thought, why not, as direct flights were sold out for the overnight, which I needed due to class.
Well, after a 45-minute delay, the probability of me making my connection was very low. For reference, the connection was 54 minutes originally.
Well, somehow, somehow, I made it.
The Connection
Once we landed on the 737 Max 9 from Los Angeles (review coming in the future), we luckily had a short taxi to the gate. Wait for it at C6. We arrived at the gate at 7:56 am. My flight to La Guardia was departing at 8:20 am, with final boarding at 8:05 am from Z gates.
So I decided to run, and I mean properly leg it.
A couple of aspects really took to me in terms of customer service. For starters, United requested that people with short connections get off the plane first and those without stay seated.
Second, once I got onto the train to head to Z gates (who invented these horrible gates), a TSA officer just going to work offered to direct me since I had never been before to the Z gates side. He literally started running with me. It goes to show that good people do exist in this world❤️.
Well, I got off the plane at 7:59 am, and by 8:08 am, I made it to Z5. They were looking down the terminal to see someone running, and once I made it, the agents said, "Mr Tillman, is that you?". Simply incredible.
Then, it was time to settle into my seat 4A for this short hop (review also coming in the future).
The last thing I was impressed with about United is that they protected me on the other flight after LGA, leaving at 12:20. I think this is a great feature that I would like to see more from airlines.
Final Thoughts
United thrived in helping me make a very tight connection at Washington Dulles the other day. Even if they won't give me my EU261 compensation, the staff were phenomenal non-stop. This is why I will be flying with United more this year, and I mean a lot more😂.
