LOL: Thai Airways Paints The Wrong Name On A 787

Intro

For those unaware, there are huge shifts going on at Thai Airways. With plenty of 787s leaving the fleet, A330s joining, and the first A321Neos having just been delivered, the future looks bright at the airline.

However, they were just about to put a plane in service, until they realized they had put the wrong name on it. 😂.

Thanks to reader (now more friend lol) Alan for flagging this.

The Details

Thai Airways was supposed to take delivery of an ex-Air India 787-9 (VT-TSQ, now HS-TWD). The Dreamliner had made its rounds at Hainan, Bamboo, Vistara, and has now made its way into the hands of the desperate Thai Airways. I say desperate since their 787s have now been delayed until Q4 of 2028. Great.

But, now here is the thing. The company that was in charge, Aerocap, to paint the Dreamliner, put the name "Don Chedi" on this jet. Doesn't sound like a big issue, right? Well, the aircraft HS-TEV already has the name Don Chedi on it, so they now have to send HS-TEV back to the workshop to change its name 😂.

Good gosh... What a mess

How Does This Happen?

To make matters worse, Alan has flagged that this supposedly came from an issue with upper management. Oftentimes, they make the decisions, which are often left unchecked, and are then sent over to the interns... The other rumour is that someone in the head office is from the Don Chedi district and wanted his name on a plane nicer than the A330...

Whatever it is, this marks the first time a plane has ever had to change names at Thai Airways while in service (The A330). What a colossal and expensive screw up.

Final Thoughts

Upper management at Thai Airways made a proper mess of a new aircraft when it was delivered a few days ago. The ex-Hainan Dreamliner made its way to Bangkok with the name "Don Chedi". Just one issue, there was an A330 with the same name already in service. Now they are sending the A330 back to the shop to get repainted, and the 787 will keep the name "Don Chedi". Ha
