Intro
I was doing my daily scroll through the websites that show aviation news, and came across a very interesting story. A story that entails a man kicking himself off a flight, which we don't often see these days.
What Happened
A redditor on the United Airlines sub posted this story about a flight he was on recently, showcasing what happened:
Seemed like he was already pretty drunk. Ranting about how he’s a 2.5 million miler, and everyone on the plane had already been drinking as well. Real jerk.
The situation was escalating and I was thinking he is definitely getting kicked off. Hoping it wasn’t going to delay us. Well, he loudly grabbed all his stuff and said he’s not flying United, exited the plane. Seems like he thought everyone would be really sad he would no longer be gracing us with his presence.

For a little bit more context, it seemed that the man was a 1K member flying from Denver to London Heathrow in United Polaris. One has to wonder just how many drinks he had consumed prior to departure to behave in this manner.
You Have To Be Careful With Alcohol When Flying
Look, I am not here to bash this person by any means, quite the opposite actually. When you are flying so much, drinking becomes a norm for a lot of people, and conversely, a situation like this is bound to happen. Heck, I have been cut off on a flight before, and for good reason, honestly. No one is perfect.
However, I would like to add that while he definitely could have handled the situation by not yelling, "I am never flying United again", he did the right thing by removing himself from the plane, and everyone got to their destination more or less on time.
So the moral of the story is, just be careful with alcohol when it comes to flying. I know business class is very nice, and United even serves Laurent Perrier champagne these days. Watch your intake, though, as it's not like you can go outside for a walk mid-flight to feel better. Additionally, watch your sleep intake as intoxication + sleep deprivation is a recipe for disaster. I learnt that the hard way...
Final Thoughts
A man was set to fly United Polaris from Denver to London Heathrow. During boarding, the FAs refused alcohol to him for a PDB, and in turn, he left the plane before the crew was presumably going to kick him off. For those reading, watch your alcohol intake when flying, as it can hit you harder than on the ground.
I am also no one to discourage 3 glasses of champagne during breakfast service right before landing in London either 😉.
