Jetblue Drops LaGuardia Boston Route: Makes Sense

Konrad Tillman

Intro

Jetblue has long been struggling with profitability and keeps trying to switch strategies to try and find a profitable business model. However, in the latest switch of strategies, Jetblue has decided to cut down on a major route, and this might not be great for consumers...

The Details

A while ago when Jetblue was attempting to merge with American Airlines, the latter airline opted to give the daily frequencies over to Jetblue for the LGA-BOS route. However, after the merger was denied by the DOJ, American Airlines returned but with only up to 4x daily flights.

However, as of April 30th, 2025, Jetblue has decided to end all operations between New York LaGuardia and Boston Logan. Considering Delta operates a shuttle service every hour between 6 am and 8 pm, it must have been difficult for Jetblue to even try and compete in the market to begin with.

What This Means For Consumers

For those looking to head from LaGuardia to Boston Logan after April 30th, you will now only be left with two different airlines to choose from: American Airlines or Delta Airlines. While AA only operates 4x daily routes, I imagine that this must help take away Delta from controlling the monopoly in the market.

However, if you are looking in general to get from New York to Boston, there are plenty of options. Travelers can choose to take a flight out of neighboring Newark or perhaps even JFK as well. The Acela train runs frequently and takes around 3.5 hours. Alternatively, depending on traffic, the drive can be anywhere from 4 hours to 6 hours.

Unfortunately, Traidwind, a seaplane operation from Boston Harbour to New York 23rd Street, recently went out of business. Door-to-door service in 2 hours isn't a bad shout, but with a lack of funding, they had to close down the route.

Final Thoughts

Jetblue has just announced that it has decided to end its 6x daily operations between New York LaGuardia and Boston Logan. As of April 30th, the only airlines that will fly this route will be American Airlines 4x daily, and Delta Airlines up to 16x daily. Unfortunately, with Jetblue looking to find a way to be profitable, this route end makes sense.
