Jetblue Cuts Hot Meals In Transatlantic Economy

Intro

Reports have been circulating throughout 2024 about economy passengers flying economy on Jetblue transatlantically not receiving hot meals. Well, it now seems to be official. As of October 1st, 2024, Jetblue will be removing hot meals from all flights in economy.

I've gotta say, I thought Jetblue was doing fantastically by offering hot meals in economy, and this is a huge dissapointment. Let's get into the details.

The Details

Jetblue will not be serving "chilled meals" on transatlantic flights when flying both East and Westbound. An example of the menu is as follows:

Comparatively to what we used to see, where Jetblue has partnered with DIG to provide some of the best food in economy you would find, this is a huge letdown. I mean, heck, just look at this meal flying from New York to London, it looks actually quite appetizing.

A small little detail to add is that Jetblue only had ovens in economy on their A321XLRs and not their A321neo (I will be flying next week🙂), which had been operating certain routes. So I guess in some sense, at least there is consistency across the board now, right? 😅

My Thoughts

It's extremely tough to get passengers to choose a narrowbody on a transatlantic rather than a widebody. Jetblue is the only carrier to launch a narrowbody on the New York-London route, and it doesn't seem to be working out. Sure, they do offer free wifi, but the main selling point of Jetblue was the food.

Would you rather fly Delta on a 767 and have no middle seat, better food, and a less claustrophobic cabin? Personally, that sounds a lot better to me than a longer flight time on Jetblue now.

I'm disappointed and confused about Jetblue. They seem to be pulling out of transatlantic flights for the most part, yet they also seem to only be offering lounge access for passengers seated in Mint on a transatlantic flight (Yes, credit card and Mosaic as well). Jetblue has been going through some financial struggles, but as with everything in life, you have to find your niche and stick to it.

Final Thoughts

Jetblue is switching up its transatlantic offerings, and it's certainly not something passengers would want to see. Instead of being able to select a hot option and a cold, only "chilled" items will be available for economy passengers flying transatlantic. Certainly one way of cost-cutting.🤨
