Indonesians Advised Not To Travel To Cambodia Due To Killing For Organ Harvesting

Intro

Wow, okay, this has nothing to do with the Russia series, but I was sitting at a bar today in Indonesia, and something very serious was brought to my attention that I think is important to share.

Yeah, this is serious and few people know about this in the West, so it is critical to share...

The Details

If you haven't learnt this now, the world is beautiful, but the world is also extremely f*cked up. Yeah, profanity, but it's true. Anyways, earlier today as I was sitting at the bar in Singaraja, the bartender was telling me a story about how his friend was almost kidnapped and killed for his organs.

Finding good work in Indonesia is tough for locals, with the wage quite low, and people wanting to go abroad, which can often cause these so-called "scams". The latest one is from Cambodia, where people will often pose as business owners hoping to 'hire' people for their company.

These scams are common all around the world
These scams are common all around the world

Well, apparently, this is how the scam works:

  • Someone reaches out via message, attempting to hire an Indonesian.

  • You can go, but under conditions such as the people will be escorting you from your home in Indonesia

  • Upon arrival in Cambodia, these people will be taken to a private island, where they will be told to make a video telling their friends to come

  • After they agree, each person on the island will be killed one by one and have their organs harvested.

Just reading this breaks my heart. Taking advantage of people is truly disgraceful in every regard, but killing Indonesians for organs? That's a new low.

Well, as of this year, the Indonesian government has urged citizens to avoid traveling to Cambodia during this time, primarily due to this reason.

Be Careful: Even As A Westerner

Even though above I spoke about Indonesians, this is actually more common than you think, even for Westerners. Whether it be people reaching out online offering a job in Thailand, and next thing you know, you end up working at a Chinese call center in Myanmar, or other countries around the world, you have to be careful.

Myanmar is one of my favorite countries in the world, but this sort of scam is also common here.

So what can you do? If you are taking a job where someone reached out to you online, I am not saying 'don't take it'. I am saying double check, triple check, and make sure that you are not walking into one of these traps....

Final Thoughts

Indonesians have recently been advised, as of this year, to avoid all non-essential travel to Cambodia due to reports of people having their organs harvested. While this is not the first time we have heard reports like this around the world, I think it is important that we bring light to this horrid situation. If you are thinking about taking a job from one of these companies that reaches out to you in Asia, please make sure to double-check that you are not falling into one of these traps. Because once you are in, it becomes extremely difficult to get out...

Yes, I double-checked my sources here. There are many articles and YouTube videos online about it if you are interested in reading more (I'm sorry I don't have all of the info).

Also, yes, this has very little to do with traveling, and I don't care.
