Intro

For those unaware, the Assad Regime fell in late 2024, and since then, Syria has been changing rapidly. With reports circulating that Trump has begun dropping the sanctions on the country, and Syrians flocking home in hopes that there might once again be hope for the future, a horrible attack has occurred.

What Happened?

Yesterday, June 22nd, ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack that took place at a Greek Orthodox church in Damascus. Reports online have stated that 22 civilians were killed, and another 60 were injured in this attack.

Supposedly, the terrorist began shooting inside the church before deciding to detonate an explosive device, in turn causing mass casualties. The Syrian authorities identified the terrorist as being part of the Islamic State.

The Complication Behind Religion In Syria

Before embarking on my mission to Syria, I visited some old Syrian friends who live nearby in California. He mentioned this to me:

There is a huge problem when it comes to religion in Syria, and especially for Christians. This is the main reason why me and my family decided to leave.

And while Syria has seemingly been doing better after the fall of the Assad regime, this is an attack that is tragic, taking the lives of 22 people.

Final Thoughts

Tragically, 22 people have passed away in Damascus, after a terrorist began shooting inside of a Greek Orthodox Church before detonating an explosive device. As of now, the count is 22 deceased, and another 60 injured. Let's hope this doesn't rise. There is so much hope in Syria at the moment, and my heart stands with those who have suffered ❤️.
