Global Airlines A380 Heads Back Into Storage

Intro

Uh oh. After operating a few transatlantic flights from Europe to the United States, Global Airlines has decided to place its A380 back into storage for the time being. Here are the reasons as to why.

The Details

Yesterday, July 16th, the solo Global Airlines Airbus A380 operated a 1-hour and 50-minute flight from Dresden to Tarbes (in France).

As quoted from Global Airlines online (via Instagram), the reason is that the giant jet plans to undergo large maintenance shortly.

As per Global Airlines:

After completing the latest maintenance in Dresden, 9H-GLOBL will be heading to Tarbes to park until it is time to head off to the next stage of heavy maintenance. In recent months the first Global aircraft has crossed the Atlantic multiple times, visited New York, Berlin, Barcelona, Manchester, Glasgow and London, carried its first paying passengers and shown how incredible the A380 is in so many ways. It’s always great to see her in the sky and it won’t be long before she is up in the clouds once again on the way to the next adventure.

The reasoning behind the maintenance is that the aircraft needs an extensive check after 12 years, and one that will take ample time, as well as money.

What Happens After Maintenance?

Now, for the real question we have all been wondering, what will happen after the aircraft comes back from maintenance? I see it going a few different ways here:

  • Global Airlines returns to the operation that they were running before. Operating transatlantic flights infrequently and probably burning a lot of money.

  • Another option is that the aircraft will be sold off to another party. However, it seems that this is less likely to occur, especially due to what they wrote about on their Instagram.

  • Lastly, one has to wonder if Global Airlines could take on charter flights with this A380.

I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think will come after this extensive maintenance. Honestly, I imagine very few of us have a real clue about what will occur, but it's fun to play the guessing game!

Final Thoughts

The solo Global Airlines A380 has been flown to Tarbes in France to park up before the next set of maintenance that needs to be done on the aircraft. After flying multiple transatlantic crossings, one has to wonder what will happen to this A380 after. Back to the same business plan?
