Flying Polaris Out Of Chicago? Here Is What You Get With A Closed Lounge!
Intro
I am currently on the way to Carnival in Brazil and connecting through Chicago to head down to Sao Paulo. Seeing as the United Polaris Lounge is currently under renovations, I thought I would share what the ground experience is like these days for ticketed Polaris passengers at ORD.
What It's Like
The Polaris Lounges are some of the best business class lounges in the world, featuring made-to-order food, fantastic drinks, and decadent lounges. Well, the United Airlines Polaris Lounge is currently under renovations in Chicago, and thus Polaris passengers now only have access to the clubs.
Passengers in Polaris now have the option of visiting any one of the five United Clubs inside of Chicago O'Hare Airport. Once you get to one of the clubs and scan your boarding pass, it will display that you are ticketed in Polaris.
The staff will provide a little goodie bag consisting of some chocolate and 2 premium drink vouchers.
These drink vouchers can be used at the bar for anything "premium". Interestingly, each time you enter a new club, you receive another goodie bag, giving you more chocolates and drink vouchers.
My Thoughts
Obviously not having access to the Polaris Lounge is a bit of a disappointment, but I knew that going in to the lounge in Chicago was going to get bigger and better. On paper, I am a huge fan of these small details that United are providing, just not in this way.
It got me thinking: what if United began to provide chocolates just before descent to Polaris passengers? I truly think this would be right in line with airlines that feature good soft products such as LOT providing toffees.
But back to the makeshift Polaris lounge, this is fine but nothing more. I am curious as to why United Airlines doesn't just allow the showing of a Polaris boarding pass at the bar to grant you access to free premium drinks.
Final Thoughts
If you happen to be flying Polaris out of Chicago in the coming months, you'll be sad to know that the Polaris Lounge is currently closed undergoing renovations. However, at each lounge you will be greeted with a nice little bag providing you with premium drink vouchers and a small box of chocolates.
Come on United, start providing us with these chocolates on the plane!
