Intro
The flag carrier of Finland, Finnair, has slowly been building up its route network in North America, and has just announced its latest plan for a long-haul route. Well, after 11 years away from Canada, the airline will be returning!
The Details
As of May 4th, 2026, Finnair will be launching a summer seasonal flight between Helsinki and Toronto, utilizing an A330-300. The flight will be operated 3x weekly and will only be served until August 29th, which is actually quite a short rotation for a summer seasonal. The schedule is as follows (these flights are not on sale yet, hence the no flight numbers):
Helsinki-Toronto departing at 4:50 PM arriving 6:35 PM
Toronto-Helsinki departing at 11:40 PM arriving 2:45 PM (+1 day)

A Quick Thought
With Air Canada dominating the market in Canada (as expected), it's nice to see another Oneworld flight airline begin serving the nation, and honestly, I think it might work out. Summer in Toronto is beautiful, and combined with the connecting traffic on both ends, I wouldn't be surprised if this route came back the summer after as well.
From a consumer point, and someone who loves spending miles on business class products, I reckon that this might be an easy enough route to find an award seat in business class, which during the summer can be quite tricky. It's obviously a route directed more at leisure, and I think people might have some luck close in with the 28 business class seats on the A330-300.
Final Thoughts
Finnair has announced that beginning next summer, the airline will operate a 3x weekly summer seasonal flight from Helsinki to Toronto. While this route was flown until 2015, it will mark an 11-year hiatus away from Canada for the airline. Exciting times, and providing more Oneworld options to Canada!
