Intro
There are reports coming out in the past few days about an easyJet Pilot who was removed from duty after being found roaming the halls naked in Cape Verde, and I figured that I would provide my take on this interesting scandal.
What Happened
On the early morning of August 5th, customers at the Melia Dunas Beach Resort in Cape Verde came across quite an interesting scene. An inebriated easyJet pilot, who is currently not named, was seen roaming the halls around 2:30 am while reeking of alcohol.
Supposedly, the pilot had begun drinking in the afternoon and got so inebriated that he stripped naked and proceeded to waltz through reception, through the gym, and ended up at the spa.

While the pilot wasn’t due to operate the return flight to Gatwick for another 36 hours, this obviously shows a bad message for the airline. As of now, the airline has “stood him down from duty pending an investigation.”
My (Controversial Take)
We have heard about the many stories that pilots and cabin crew get up to while on their layovers. I don’t blame them; it’s a tough job bouncing around constantly from place to place with little stability. However, as long as there are no issues when it comes to the actual flight itself, I don’t usually have a problem with it.
Look, I think that the easyJet pilot did cross a line here, and is most likely breaking the law, to be honest, more than anything. It doesn’t matter the company, but when you work for someone, you represent them on and off the job. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that he should be fired, because safety wasn’t the concern here (more than enough time to recover), but I think there is a deeper underlying issue here: there is somewhat of a systemic issue of going out and getting over-inebriated. I’m all for everyone enjoying in this world, especially the crew, due to how hard the job is, but within moderation. 36 hours before flying? Go out and have the time of your life? Night before an 8 am, that’s a tricky one…
Final Thoughts
An easyJet pilot is facing an investigation after guests at the Melia Dunas Beach Resort in Cape Verde found him waltzing around naked through reception, the gym, and spa at 2:30 am in the morning. This isn’t much to do with safety, as the pilot easily could have slept this off in the next 36 hours, but more to do with how the pilot was representing the company.
But this also brings me on to another post I will make at some point: what goes on behind the scenes is hilarious. I am friends with many FAs and members of the flight deck on various carriers. The flight deck constantly vapes in the cockpit on some of the top carriers in the world, and the crew shows up intoxicated more than you realize, but I’ll save that for another post.
