Intro
Delta has long been known for being the largest carrier in New York, often meaning that they don't cut many routes due to the multiple options. However, after 34 years, Delta is axing its New York to Brussels route. Honestly? It makes sense.
The Details
Delta Airlines has operated a once-daily flight from New York to Brussels for quite some time now. However, as of January 6th, 2026, DL will be axing this route completely. Previously, Delta offered its less competitive 767-300ER on this route, but things are now shifting...

Due to aligning with "better customer demand", Delta will now be shifting this route to Atlanta. As of March 8th, Delta will now be offering a daily service between the two cities, utilizing a 767 as well.
Brussels Is A Tough Route
There is no doubt: Brussels is a very tough route to serve if you are not in Star Alliance or based in Europe. It's a fortress hub for Brussels Airlines, which has huge connecting traffic to a lot of off-the-beaten-path destinations in Africa.
Additionally, you have Star Alliance slowly taking over Europe. Just look at ITA and how they have shifted to Star Alliance. Yes, they might have lost SAS, but Southern Europe? Look at Greece, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, and then you can go further to talk about EgyptAir in Egypt... Honestly, most parts of Europe are much more accessible when thinking about connecting traffic in the region.
These are just my thoughts...
Final Thoughts
After 34 years, Delta is finally cutting its New York to Brussels route. It's not that surprising to hear, due to the lack of premium demand from New York, and the fact that Brussels is a fortress hub for Brussels Airlines.
