American Airlines Flagship Suites Coming Soon?

Konrad Tillman

Intro

A couple of years ago, American Airlines announced that it would be rolling out a brand new business class product which was mightily better than their current business class product. Well, due to aircraft delays with Boeing and seat certification issues, the rollout had been pushed back for a quite a minute now, but there might be a positive development.

The Details

Rumour on the street has it that American Airlines is expected to take delivery of two 787-9 Dreamliners come April 2025. While this is not 100% confirmed, this could mean that American Airlines might have an additional two widebodies to work with during the summer season. Ever since COVID-19 when American Airlines decided to retire the 767s, 757s, and A330s, they have had a widebody aircraft shortage thus causing many routes to be cut.

The 777-300ER is also supposed to get the new cabins, but it will probably be held off until later in 2025.

What To Expect Onboard

Currently, American Airlines 787-9s feature 30 business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration (between doors 1 and 2), 21 premium economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, and 234 economy seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.

However, going forward, these future 787-9s will feature a whopping 51 business class seats, 32 premium economy seats, and only 161 economy seats. With this new configuration, expect these planes to be operated on ultra-long haul routes and routes with high premium demand.

Overall, I cannot wait for this product to come to American Airlines, as it will once again make them competitive again.

Final Thoughts

Rumor on the street is that American Airlines will be taking delivery of their two brand new Dreamliners with their Flagship Business Class Suites as early as 2025. While nothing is confirmed, and no routes are currently scheduled, I would imagine that this might come to fruition. If you are an AA flyer traveling abroad this summer, perhaps you will be lucky enough to get onboard the new business-class product!
