Amazing Art At Nike Art Gallery Lagos, Nigeria
Intro
With a jam-packed day around Lagos, there was one touristy thing that I did get to. However, it wasn't more or less the most touristy activity to do in Lagos since this place truly embraces the local art culture to the fullest extent. Welcome to a quick look at one of the most famous art galleries in the largest city in Nigeria.
The Experience
The Nike art gallery (don't be confused with the Nike sports clothing brand) is located right outside of downtown Lagos and can easily be found on Google Maps. Once we arrived at the gallery, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. There were local Nigerians singing and dancing to welcome customers into their gallery.
It was some of the most extravagant pieces of art I have seen anywhere in the world. We are not just talking about basic paintings; we are talking about metal cows that have been turned into art. You can purchase cars here that are designed beautifully.
While witnessing some of this artwork was mesmerizing, unfortunately, there was no way that I could bring any of it home. For starters, this was the first stop on my trip, and I was attempting to stay within budget. Secondly, how on earth was I supposed to bring this magnificent elephant with me??? I am not so sure about this whole shipping method.
Granted, the people who owned the gallery were very nice and didn't push any sales on me.
Inside the gallery are the smaller items ranging from clothing to paintings. While nothing stood out to me, and the prices were more than what I was expecting, these were still beautiful pieces all around.
And then it was off to Makoko!
Final Thoughts
If you are planning a trip to Lagos, Nigeria, I highly recommend that you include the Nike Art Gallery. It is truly mesmerizing to see some of the pieces of artwork they have on display and for purchase.
