Intro
For a very long time, I have wanted Philippine Airlines to become a partner with another frequent flyer program, and it has finally happened. As of last week, Philippine Airlines awards are now bookable through the Alaska Airlines frequent flyer program. Fantastic!
The Details
From now on, Alaska has taken on Philippine Airlines as their 32nd airline partner, including the likes of Starlux, Japan Airlines, and Cathay Pacific to name a few. In the past, if you wanted to book a redemption on Philippine Airlines, you would have to do it through their frequent flyer program, but this has now changed and opened up a world of possibilities going forward!

So, what does this mean if you are thinking about taking advantage of this when flying to the Philippines?
Well, not only can you redeem miles when flying Philippine Airlines, but you will also be able to credit miles when paying out of pocket on Philippine Airlines.
Redemptions?
As of now, Alaska has yet to release the award pricing regarding Philippine Airlines, but I imagine that it should come out in the next week or two as the partnership is finalized.
Although I could very well be wrong, expect to see prices fall right in the range of partner award tickets (not the dynamic partners) to Asia. This could be a great opportunity, and one that I expect to have lots of award space due to the dated business class product.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a new way to get to Asia on points, Alaska Airlines has just announced its 32nd partner airline: Philippine Airlines. Expect award rates to fall in line with most of the other options to Asia, and award space to be more frequent than the likes of Japan Airlines.
