Intro
A lot has been going on recently in Nigeria, whether it be about aviation or the president telling citizens to come home (source), it seems that Nigeria is on somewhat of the right track going forward.
However, probably the most interesting thing to me as an aviation lover is how Air Peace, the flag carrier of Nigeria, has just taken delivery of its 4th 777. This is quite the plane.
The Details
A little bit of background surrounding Air Peace for those who are unaware of this airline:
Air Peace is the flag carrier of Nigeria, and the only airline from Nigeria to operate a widebody aircraft.
Founded in 2014, Air Peace has grown their operation to over 40 aircraft, secured slots at London Gatwick, and has big plans for the future
The airline serves various destinations around the globe, including many routes within Western Africa
Well, as of 6 days ago, Air Peace took delivery of their 4th 777, and this time it is a 777-200ER. Originally, the aircraft (5N-CEG) was delivered to Japan Airlines back in 2005, and eventually was sold off to Jet Midwest, then over to Alta, before Air Peace finally acquired it.

But here is where it really gets exciting for consumers, as if you know anything about Japan Airlines, you know that they configure for comfort, not just profitability.
This plane has been through a series of retrofits over the years, but Air Peace has decided to keep the latest layout in a 2-class configuration. Business Class is in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access, while economy is in a 3-4-2 configuration. Yup, you heard that right. A 3-4-2 in economy: almost unheard of these days.

That is a lot of extra space for those in economy compared to the usual 3-4-3.
Brazil Flights
I've gotta say, I am so excited for Air Peace in so many different ways. Not only have they secured 2 weekly slots at Heathrow starting in October from Abuja, but a recent memo has come out stating that direct flights from Lagos to Sao Paulo might be starting soon. To be more specific, the two countries have initiated the following:
"Nigeria and Brazil have officially signed a new Bilateral Air Service Agreement, paving the way for direct flights that promise to reinvigorate trade, tourism, and diplomatic relations between the two nations. By streamlining air connectivity, the agreement aims to facilitate smoother business interactions, boost tourism exchanges, and strengthen diplomatic engagement, ensuring a renewed flow of people, goods, and opportunities across both countries."

With London already being served from Lagos and Abuja as of October, and Sao Paulo on the horizon, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Air Peace serving Asia soon enough. Additionally, I imagine that US flights to Washington or Atlanta might be on the horizon if they are able to earn a Cat 1 rating.
We underestimate Nigeria as an aviation market, but there is a reason why United and Delta have done so well on their Lagos routes and upped their frequencies. Man, I am excited for Nigeria.
Final Thoughts
The flag carrier of Nigeria, Air Peace, has just taken delivery of its 4th 777, and boy is it a swanky plane. Featuring spacious economy seats and direct aisle access for business class, this will be a treat to fly from Abuja to London. However, this isn't just about an aircraft; this is about the emergence of a carrier in Africa that has expanded to 40 planes in 11 years. It's about an airline that has a lot of potential, and with a bilateral agreement being signed for Brazil flights, the potential for further expansion is there.
